Hello K1 Families,
It is hard to believe that this is the last week of school. It has been a different kind of year, but we hope that the children all have fond memories of the time we spent together in school and online! Here are some activities for next week. Reminder: Teachers will be making deliveries to each child this week and will be offline on their scheduled visit days. Literacy: Read favorite books, if children are reading see if they can help you read some of the books we have read this year. Math: Write numbers 1-20, connect numerals with their quantities 1-20, play number memory using numbers 1-20. Writing: Practice writing first and last name. Have children draw a picture of their favorite memory of being at school, label picture or write about the memory. Here are some activities for the week ending 6/5/20. Just a reminder that we will be having a virtual field day on Thursday, June 4th. Keep an eye out for an email with details coming soon. Literacy: Zinnia's Flower Garden:by Monica Wellington https://youtu.be/6SNs6gPB60Q Planting a Rainbow: by Lois Ehlert https://youtu.be/sti3PXBeVag Dramatic Play: -Ice Cream Shop-- Set up an ice cream shop! Use whatever materials you may have (sand, play dough, tissue paper, pom poms, spoons, etc.) Create menus/label flavors and toppings to encourage writing skills, practice listening/ language skills by taking orders and placing an order. This is a fun activity to do at the house or even outside/ at the beach. Science: -Color Changing Flowers Materials: White carnations, liquid food coloring in a variety of colors Instructions: To start you will want to trim down the stems of the flower so they fit your cups or glasses. 2. Add water to each cup. 3. Then put about 10-15 drops of food coloring in the water and stir around a bit. 4. Add at least one carnation to each glass of colored water. 5. Check in on the flowers every couple of hours and observe any changes. Math: Materials:
Procedure: Encourage your child to draw a picture of a park, school, or neighborhood, or cut out a picture from a magazine or flyer Ask your child to create a story using 0-5 objects such as bottle caps, pebbles, small toys.
“Once upon a time there was 1 bee looking for pollen. She flew into a garden and she met 4 more bees and together they flew around the flowers. How many bees in all” Talk about: How many____in all?, How do you know there are (3, 4,6, etc.) in the story Words to use: addition, more than, altogether Art: Self-Portrait- Have your child use a mirror to look at their reflection. Tell your child to draw or paint a picture of themselves. Encourage your child to add details and look in the mirror to look at the color of their eyes, hair, etc. Religion: I Can Listen- Help children develop a greater awareness of the need to listen when someone else is talking and praying. Help children understand that good listening shows respect and love toward others and is necessary for successful learning in all areas of life. Numbers: 16, 17, 18 Have children practice writing these numbers with different materials (crayons, markers, pencils, chalk, dry erase board, etc.) Can children identify these numbers and count out objects for each number they identify? Letters: Practice writing letters N-Z using a variety of materials. Can children identify and make the sound for each letter? (the bird) How do you think the bird felt about this news? How can you tell? Did you ever hear some exciting news? What was it?How did you feel? When the boy got bigger he sometimes played with other children and sometimes he had to share. What are some times it's more fun to play with other children than to play alone? Tell me about sharing toys and other things with friends. Math: How long is it_____? Have children use non standard units to measure length. Children will become familiar with the terms used in length measurement. Children will use blocks or other manipulatives to measure the length of items inside or outside. Children can record what they have measured and the length. Children can compare the length of the different items they measure, what items are the have an equal length, what items are longer? Language and Print Manipulatives: Upper and Lowercase Memory Game Using a set of upper case letters and a set of lower case letters children will play the memory game. Use as many letters that you think your child is ready for. Once they have mastered those letters add additional letters to challenge your child. Children turn an upper case letter then turn a lower case letter. Have children say the name of each letter they turn over. If they get a match they go again. Religion: I Can Wait To help increase the children's understanding that waiting is often necessary and worthwhile. Numbers: 13, 14 and 15 Have children practice writing these number.
