Here are some activities for the week ending 6/5/20. Just a reminder that we will be having a virtual field day on Thursday, June 4th. Keep an eye out for an email with details coming soon. Literacy: Zinnia's Flower Garden:by Monica Wellington https://youtu.be/6SNs6gPB60Q Planting a Rainbow: by Lois Ehlert https://youtu.be/sti3PXBeVag Dramatic Play: -Ice Cream Shop-- Set up an ice cream shop! Use whatever materials you may have (sand, play dough, tissue paper, pom poms, spoons, etc.) Create menus/label flavors and toppings to encourage writing skills, practice listening/ language skills by taking orders and placing an order. This is a fun activity to do at the house or even outside/ at the beach. Science: -Color Changing Flowers Materials: White carnations, liquid food coloring in a variety of colors Instructions: To start you will want to trim down the stems of the flower so they fit your cups or glasses. 2. Add water to each cup. 3. Then put about 10-15 drops of food coloring in the water and stir around a bit. 4. Add at least one carnation to each glass of colored water. 5. Check in on the flowers every couple of hours and observe any changes. Math: Materials:
Procedure: Encourage your child to draw a picture of a park, school, or neighborhood, or cut out a picture from a magazine or flyer Ask your child to create a story using 0-5 objects such as bottle caps, pebbles, small toys.
“Once upon a time there was 1 bee looking for pollen. She flew into a garden and she met 4 more bees and together they flew around the flowers. How many bees in all” Talk about: How many____in all?, How do you know there are (3, 4,6, etc.) in the story Words to use: addition, more than, altogether Art: Self-Portrait- Have your child use a mirror to look at their reflection. Tell your child to draw or paint a picture of themselves. Encourage your child to add details and look in the mirror to look at the color of their eyes, hair, etc. Religion: I Can Listen- Help children develop a greater awareness of the need to listen when someone else is talking and praying. Help children understand that good listening shows respect and love toward others and is necessary for successful learning in all areas of life. Numbers: 16, 17, 18 Have children practice writing these numbers with different materials (crayons, markers, pencils, chalk, dry erase board, etc.) Can children identify these numbers and count out objects for each number they identify? Letters: Practice writing letters N-Z using a variety of materials. Can children identify and make the sound for each letter? Have a great weekend, Mrs. Powers, Ms. Johnson, and Ms. Tempinski
