There is no school on Monday, January 21st, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Next week we are on week four of OWL, Unit 3 Wind and Water. Centers for next week are:
Art Center--Painting with colors from "Rabbits and Raindrops"--Children will paint at the easel using colors seen in the story Rabbits and Raindrops.
Math Center--Sweater Math Match Up--Children will count the number of stickers on sweaters and find a pair of jeans hanging on a clothes line that has the matching number written on the jeans. Children will count sets of objects, one to one correspondence and number recognition.
Writing Center--Story Related Word Cards--Children will understand that print carries meaning, writes familiar words from storybooks. Children use mini white boards and markers to write words from story related word cards.
OWL Books--A Hat for Minerva Louise, The Snowy Day, The Very Noisy Night and Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain.
OWL Poems--My Big Balloon, Cloud, Hands, Boom, Bang!, and Ten Little Fingers
OWL Songs--Down by the Bay, Old MacDonald Had a Farm, Five Green and Speckled Frogs, Apples and Bananas, Head and Shoulders Knees and Toes and If You're Happy.
Religion--God Gave Us Animals

Centers for the upcoming week:
Art Center-- After reading "A Snowy Day" students will use Puffy Paint (Shaving cream and glue) to create a snow scene from the story and add Peter, the main character.
Science Center-- Treasure from blocks of ice. Children will use squeeze bottles with warm water to melt ice cubes with treasure inside to help develop questions and language as they observe the changes.
Writing Center-- How Would I Change the World, Relate to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Children will create earth using blue and green ink, they will be asked what they can do to make the world a better place.
Math Center-- Building Blocks--Number Race Game--Children will play a board game; rolling die, announce the number that was rolled and moving that many spaces.
OWL Songs: Itsy Bitsy Spider, Five Little Ducks, Wheels on the Bus, Apples and Bananas, Open Shut Them, If you're Happy, Looby Loo , Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, The More We Get Together, Bingo

We will be working on OWL, Unit 3 Wind and Water week 2 the week of January 7-11th.
Block Center-- Students will build in the block area using wooden blocks. Uses classroom materials purposefully and respectfully
Math Center--Shape Memory Game.
Art Center--: Painting with spray bottles.
Puzzles and Manipulative Center--Making Clothespin Fences:Engages in dramatic play, uses language to sustain play with peers.
OWL Books: Gilberto and the Wind, One Dark Night, Rabbits and Raindrops, Over in the Meadow and Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain.
OWL Songs: Open Shut Them, Five Little Ducks, What are you Wearing, Looby Loo, The More We Get Together and Come On and Join in to the Game.
